Meanwhile, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) issued its latest warning that the similarities between cryptocurrency price movements and stock markets could pose a risk to financial markets. According to the IMF, the correlation between the U.S. stock index and bitcoin rises from 0.01 in 2017 to 2019 to 0.36 in 2020.

Analysts have long noted that bitcoin, as well as other cryptocurrencies, tend to fluctuate in tandem with the stock market, and the link has strengthened recently. On Tuesday, both stocks and cryptocurrencies reversed their early losses to move higher in afternoon trading. Both have seen recent volatility due to signs that the Federal Reserve is willing to tighten policy at a faster pace than previously expected.
