The Russian Ministry of Finance has amended a bill called "On Digital Currency" to include provisions on crypto mining

By    13 Apr,2022

According to Anatoly Aksakov, chairman of the Financial Markets Committee of the lower house of the Russian parliament, the new law, as well as amendments to the Russian tax code, may be adopted during the spring session of the State Duma for cryptocurrency operations.

The Finance Ministry said that certain elements of the bill, especially those governing cryptocurrency content mining, have been clarified. While the use of bitcoin in payments has been met with hostility, particularly from the Central Bank of Russia and, more recently, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishuskin, many Russian politicians support the concept of mining as an economic activity.

The Bank of Russia proposed a total ban on various cryptocurrency-related activities, including mining, in January, but the Russian government supports Minfin's belief that the industry should be regulated rather than restricted. President Vladimir Putin urged them to resolve the dispute and emphasized the Russian ideology. /p>

The Ministry of Economic Development proposed in February to allow digital currency withdrawals in areas with excess electricity and to provide miners with reasonable electricity rates. In late March, the Energy Ministry urged the immediate legalization of mining and the implementation of regional energy quotas for bitcoin farms. This week, the Ministries of Industry and Trade, Construction, Housing and Utilities proposed introducing a legal regime for experimental mining.
