Bitcoin, space travel and TikTok debut in Guinness World Records

The latest version includes many of Cryptomania's achievements, including record CryptoPunk NFT sales and El Salvador becoming the first country to adopt BTC as a legal tender.

Guinness World Records has added Bitcoin ($19,641) and a number of blockchain events to its record book under the latest edition of the "Cryptomania" category.

The recognition of cryptocurrencies in the mainstream, such as Guinness World Records, shows that blockchain and digital assets have been one of the most popular topics in the public eye over the past few years.

The 2023 edition, launched last month, has already seen many notable crypto achievements, including Bitcoin, crypto adoption, fan tokens and irreplaceable tokens (NFTs).

Not surprisingly, Bitcoin is recognized as the most valuable cryptocurrency with a market capitalization of $816.69 billion as of March 24, 2022, as well as for being the world's first decentralized cryptocurrency after its launch in early 2009.

"Bitcoin was developed to address the challenge of regulating digital currencies without any centralized organization or 'trusted third party' to oversee transactions," the Guinness World Records description reads online, adding that it was preceded by eventual other attempts were made to rely on trusted third parties.

The OG NFT project CryptoPunks was also selected as the most "expensive NFT collection" ($1,336 in Ether) after buying CryptoPunk #5822 for $23.7 million or 8,000 Ether on February 12 of this year by entrepreneur Deepak Thapliya.
